Anthony Girard

After five years working in wineries all over the world, including a spell in Côte-Rôtie, Anthony Girard, the owner of La Clef du Récit, returned to France to work at his family's winery in Sancerre. However, he longed for the opportunity to make his own wine and managed to acquire 8.5 hectares of prime vineyards in the hamlet of Récy from a retiring resident. To celebrate he was given a large key to symbolise his recent taking over of the estate and the winery name La Clef du Récit was coined. Two thirds of the vineyards are planted on 'caillottes' soils; limestone that gives the wines freshness and fruitiness, whilst the remainder is planted on flint for power and minerality.
